Pettis County, Mo., Obituary

Cue A. Higdon, a prominent stockman and farmer of the Clifton City neighborhood, died suddenly while working on his farm about eighteen miles northeast of Sedalia, about 3:30 Monday afternoon. Death was due to heart trouble, Dr. Gordon Stauffacher, coroner, stated after viewing the body.

Mr. Higdon, with his son C. A. Higdon, Jr., was working on a fence on the farm when the youth asked his father to take hold of a half hitch and Mr. Higdon said, "Son, I am sick", staggered backward and fell to the ground. The son rushed to his side but his father was dead.

Dr. Holtzen of Smithton was called and, after viewing the body, notified Dr. Stauffacher, who went to the scene and also viewed the body. Monday night Dr. Stauffacher held a postmortem on the body at the Neumeyer Funeral Home in Smithton.

Mr. Higdon was born on the farm where he resided, the son of the late Jesse and America Higdon. He received his education in the country schools and was married when a young man to Miss Daisy May Potter, a neighbor girl. To this union were born two children, C. A., Jr. and Miss Mary Jeannette Higdon, the latter a student in the Smith-Cotton High School. Mr. Higdon was a member of the Providence Baptist Church.

Surviving is his widow, and two children and the following sisters, Mrs. Granville Potter of 2201 South Ohio Avenue, Mrs. Belle Campbell of St. Louis, and Mrs. Hettie Smiley of Saskatchewan, Canada; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. R. A. Higdon of Kansas City.

Three sisters, Mrs. Ward Kellerman, Miss Beulah Higdon, and Mrs. Louis Sheffer, and two brothers, S. A. Higdon and Robert A. Higdon, the latter a well-known attorney of Sedalia, preceded their brother in death. His brother, R. A. Higdon passed away on August 30, 1933, at his home from heart disease.

The body will be taken to the family home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Providence Church, three miles north of Smithton, near Clifton City. Rev. A. W. Kokendoffer, pastor of the First Christian Church, Sedalia, will officiate. Interment will be in Providence Cemetery.

The following friends will serve as active pallbearers: E. R. Knox, J. G. Hansberger, E. I. Bidstrup, L. G. Wells, Charles Dilthey, and Mr. Sheperd. Honorary pallbearers will be: F. T. Perkins, C. E. Knox, Willie Embree, George Shaw, Marshall Hall, Oscar Green, James Hay, N. C. McFarland, Louis Monsees, and Barney Twenter.
