Rites Held Sunday For Mollie Potter

Mrs. Mollie Potter, one of the oldest residents in mid-Missouri, died Friday morning at the age of 106 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Cox, of Route 1, Smithton. She was born Nov. 23, 1855 on a farm northwest of Clifton City, the daughter of the late John and Nancy Sheffer. She lived all her life in that community.

Married to John Potter, who preceded her in death in 1920, she had celebrated her birthdays since she was 98 years old as a community affair inviting friends and relatives in for basket dinners and sometimes having them at the Providence Baptist Church, near Clifton City. Quite often musical numbers were presented and a message by the minister was given. The last two years she celebrated quietly with just her immediate family.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Daisy Higdon of Sedalia and Mrs. Grace Cox of the home; two sons, Ben Potter of Sedalia and Lewis Potter of Clifton City; ten grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Gillespie Funeral Home in Sedalia. Burial was in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
