Pettis County, Mo., Obituary

Mr. Geo. Keisel, an old citizen of Sedalia, died yesterday morning, at four o'clock. His disease was consumption, from which head had been suffering for two years. Mr. Keisel was 37 years of age; a native of Hanover, Germany, and immigrated to this country about thirteen years ago. He first landed at New Orleans, and from there went by steamboat to Boonville, and until the war began, resided in Lafayette and Cole Camp, in Benton County. During the war he was a member of the Second Missouri Infantry, from which he was honorably discharged on account of physical disability, when he came to Sedalia and began to work at blacksmithing in a shop north of the Pacific road on North Main street, now a negro shanty, a set of tools composing his fortune.

From there he removed his shop to Ohio street, on the east side, between Main and Second streets, where he was burned out in '69 and next opened a shop on the corner of Lamine Avenue and Second, where it is at present.

Two years ago he overheated himself and took a violent cold, causing the disease which produced his death. He was an inoffensive and unobtrusive person and had many friends, and by close attention to business during his residence in Sedalia had accumulated probably $25,000 worth of property, which by will he leaves to his wife and two children.

He appointed Peter and Theodore Brandt executors of his will.

The funeral obsequies will be performed on Friday, at 10 o'clock.
