JACOB POLLAK - 1808-1887Clinton, Mo - It is with sadness we are called on to chronicle the death of a former citizen of Clinton, Jacob Pollock, who died at his home in Holden on Monday afternoon, January 10th. In October, 1882, Mr. Pollock came to Clinton from Prague, Bohemia, and after remaining one year, removed to Holden with his daughter, Mrs. Barney Sterne. He was born January 27, 1808, in Launin, Bohemia, and was educated in a Jewish theological school at Prague and officiated over 40 years as Rabii in his native country. He leaves five boys and one girl. Three of the boys are still in their native country, while Joseph is one of our most successful clothing merchants, assisted by his brother, Carl. Mrs. Sterne is the wife of Barney Sterne, the successful Holden clotheir. Those present from this city were Joseph and Carl Pollock, sons, and grandson, Albert; Mike Bierman, J. L. Cohn, Ben Adler and Jacob Goldsmith. Remains were laid to rest in the Jewish cemetery in Sedalia, after a brief internment. Marker at Hebrew Union Cemetery in Sedalia: "Pollak, Jacob; b Launin, Bohemia on Dec 27, 1808 - d Holden, Mo. Jan 10, 1887"
